Colorado Stargazing Trail
The Colorado Tourism Office presents Mesa Verde's night sky in direct relationship to the ancestral landscape and the 27 Pueblos and Tribes with sacred connections to the park. The trail identifies Morefield Campground and Park Point as strong viewing areas and highlights seasonal ranger programs at the Morefield Campground amphitheater.[2]
National Park Service
The National Park Service says “the night skies above Mesa Verde are an important cultural resource.”[3]
NPS lists 2026 Night Sky programs every Wednesday from May 27 through October 14 at Morefield Campground Amphitheater, with a ranger talk followed by laser-guided sky interpretation and telescope viewing when weather permits. It also makes an important access distinction: ancestral sites, trails and backcountry are closed at night, while Morefield Campground, Far View Lodge and a number of roadside overlooks remain useful stargazing locations.[3]
