Colorado Stargazing Trail

The Colorado Tourism Office describes Crestone as a small community at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains with a long commitment to sustainable living and responsible lighting. The trail points visitors to Dark Sky Crestone events and to the community's published map and directions for dark-sky viewing sites.[2]

Dark Sky Crestone

“We pride ourselves on being a community that can see and experience our Milky Way galaxy with the naked eye.”[3]

Its 2026 calendar lists public star parties in March, June and October, International Dark Sky Week activities in April and the Sixth Annual Crestone Dark Sky Festival on August 8. The organization frames these events as part of a broader mission to preserve natural darkness through community education and better lighting.[3]
