Colorado Parks and Wildlife

Colorado Parks and Wildlife lists Elkhead Reservoir State Park as open daily from 5am to 10pm.[1]

CPW says the park has 46 campsites across two campgrounds, including electric and non-electric sites near the shoreline. Reservations are required to camp, and the current camping season runs from May 1 through November 30. CPW says winter camping is not available.[1]

What that means for stargazing

The park's direct source does not currently advertise a dedicated astronomy program. For this guide, its usefulness is the reservoir setting and legal overnight camping rather than a formal stargazing designation. Because normal park hours end at 10pm, a campsite is the clearest route to deep-night observing.[1]
