Getting into the region
Steamboat Springs is the main eastern handoff and practical base. State Forest State Park is an intentional North Park overlap shared with the Front Range and Central Mountains regions. Denver, Boulder and Fort Collins are not part of this region.

Secure the venue first. Private property, National Park Service sites, Tribal lands, resorts, campgrounds and other managed locations may require express permission, a commercial-use permit or authorization, or may not allow an outside private program at all. Use a place where the landowner or manager has specifically approved the tour, such as approved lodging, a campsite, an event venue or another suitable observing site nearby.
