Colorado Parks and Wildlife

Colorado Parks and Wildlife invited visitors in 2026 to “experience the wonders of the night sky” at Trinidad Lake State Park.[1]

May and June star parties at the Carpios Ridge amphitheater featured astronomy and physics faculty from Trinidad State College interpreting planets, constellations, stars and galaxies. The programs were free with a required state-park pass.[1]

What CPW says about overnight access

Trinidad Lake is open to campers year-round. CPW lists 73 campsites across two campgrounds; selected Carpios Ridge sites remain open in winter while South Shore is seasonal. Reservations and a valid vehicle pass are required.[2]
