Colorado Parks and Wildlife hosted multiple 2026 astronomy programs at Trinidad Lake State Park, including star parties at the Carpios Ridge amphitheater with Trinidad State College astronomy and physics faculty.[2]

Those programs are useful and worth listing when they happen. They do not, however, require the entire park to remain a permanent extended stargazing stop. The park's ordinary value is camping and recreation, while the astronomy value is date-specific programming.[2]

Overnight access still exists

Trinidad Lake remains open to campers year-round, with selected winter camping at Carpios Ridge and seasonal camping at South Shore. Travelers can still use the park according to CPW's current rules; this archive changes only its editorial status in this guide.[3]

What the defunct tag means here

DEFUNCT / EVENT-ONLY FIT means future astronomy nights should be handled as Events. It does not mean Trinidad Lake State Park is closed.[3]
