Why this listing is quarantined

Colorado Tourism still names Southern Colorado Astronomical Park as a La Veta stargazing destination and its 2026 material repeats the description of two domed observatories.[1]

That statewide listing is not enough to send a visitor there. The current Spanish Peaks Country stargazing material lists other regional stargazing options but does not provide current visitor access for Southern Colorado Astronomical Park. Current street-level entrance instructions, parking, opening hours and a public-access policy could not be verified.[1]

The Southern Colorado Astronomical Society is active, so this defunct tag does not apply to the club. Its current listings show astronomy activity, but no current public program at the La Veta astronomy park was verified.[1]

What may still exist

Older sources describe an astronomy park roughly one mile west of La Veta with a stone calendar and two observatory structures. This archive does not claim those structures are gone. The site may be unfinished, inactive, privately managed, club-access only or simply poorly documented online.[1]

From a travel-guide perspective, however, there is not enough reliable current information to present it as an active public stop.[1]

What the defunct tag means here

DEFUNCT / PUBLIC ACCESS UNVERIFIED means the guide cannot responsibly route visitors to the site. If current public-access information or programming is published, the listing can be re-verified and restored.[1]
