What the Colorado Stargazing sources say

Colorado's earlier Experience the Night material identifies the Southern Colorado Astronomical Park about one mile west of La Veta and describes a stone calendar and two observatory structures.^[1]

Colorado Tourism still lists Southern Colorado Astronomical Park as a La Veta stargazing destination. Its March 31, 2026 guide to Colorado stargazing says La Veta is home to the park and describes two domed observatories where visitors can bring telescopes.^[1]

Location verification

The destination location is now supported at the La Veta / approximately one-mile-west scale. That is enough to identify the park as a real place and map its general location.^[1]

What is not yet verified is a current authoritative street address, driveway coordinate, parking entrance or operator-issued arrival route. The map on this page is therefore intentionally a destination-area reference, not a turn-by-turn arrival pin.^[1]

Do not interpret the map marker as permission to enter a particular driveway or remain onsite after dark. The exact entrance and current visitor-access rules still need direct or field verification.^[1]

The Museum Trail page describes the land as having been donated for education, research and public enjoyment, but its event material includes old 2021 placeholders and labels programming as “Events Pending.” A dependable current 2026 public program calendar for this La Veta site has not been verified from a direct operating organization.^[1]
