Northern Colorado's dome stop

Fort Collins Museum of Discovery belongs in the guide as a Daytime Space Stop because its OtterBox Digital Dome Theater provides a real planetarium-style astronomy experience rather than simply a general science-museum detour.[1]

The museum describes the 39-foot theater as Northern Colorado's only 360-degree dome. Its programming uses full-dome laser projection and spatial audio for astronomy, science and other immersive presentations.[1]

Explore space in the dome

FCMoD specifically invites beginner astronomers and experienced stargazers to learn about the night sky in the dome, including planetarium shows and programs connected to the Northern Colorado Astronomical Society.[2]

That makes this a useful northern Front Range orientation stop before a night at a telescope program, observatory or darker site farther from the city.[2]

Plan the visit

The museum is at 408 Mason Court, Fort Collins and is normally open Tuesday through Sunday. Check the current museum and dome calendars for hours and showtimes before driving over.[3]

The map marker identifies the museum facility. It does not imply that the grounds or parking lot are intended for independent after-hours stargazing.[3]
