Space science before sunset

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science belongs in the guide as a Daytime Space Stop, not an observing location. Its strongest astronomy combination is the permanent Space Odyssey gallery plus shows in the Gates Planetarium.[1]

Space Odyssey uses interactive exhibits to move through astronomy, planetary science and space exploration. Current museum material highlights experiences involving a sensory spacewalk, launch simulation, spacetime, Hubble imagery and impact cratering.[1]

Gates Planetarium

The Gates Planetarium adds the dome experience to the museum visit. Its current films-and-shows schedule includes planetarium presentations alongside the museum's other large-format programs; showtimes and ticket availability should be checked separately from ordinary gallery access.[2]

Why it fits the trail

This is a useful Denver reset point when weather, daylight or travel timing makes outdoor observing impractical. It can also work as a primer before a night at Chamberlin Observatory or before leaving the metro for darker skies.[3]

The museum is at 2001 Colorado Boulevard, Denver. Use its current visitor page for hours, admission and parking. The map pin identifies the museum only and is not an after-hours observing recommendation.[3]
